MobyGames, which was launched in 1999, is a commercial site created by Jim Leonard, David Berk and Brian Hirt. Its goal is to “To meticulously catalog all relevant information about electronic games (computer, console, and arcade) on a game-by-game basis, and then offer up that information through flexible queries and 'data mining',” according to its website. While MobyGames is similar to a large game-based wiki it requires contributors to identify themselves and counts on members of the MobyGames community who have “approver” status to ok a new game entry.
